StarFire™ network changes  
Changes to the StarFire network, which provides differential corrections to John Deere StarFire Receivers used in precision agriculture applications, will occur between 1 November 2014 and 15 July 2015.

What is changing?

The frequencies used by satellites to broadcast differential corrections to StarFire Receivers are changing. The actual corrections themselves will not be changed, they will just be broadcast at a different frequency. Updates to StarFire Receivers are required in order to continue receiving corrections but receiver performance will not change once those updates are made.

Why are StarFire network frequencies being changed?

Frequency bands near those used for StarFire differential correction signals continue to be developed by other agencies and industries. The upcoming frequency change will ensure StarFire differential corrections are broadcast as far away from nearby frequencies as possible. This will minimize the potential for interference between nearby signals and those used by StarFire.

What changes are required for StarFire Receivers?

The method for changing these frequencies varies depending on the model of StarFire Receiver being used:

Update receiver software to latest version that includes new frequency values (3.73G or later)

StarFire 3000

Over-the-air update:

  • Software version 2.00R or later is required in order for over-the-air updates to function properly

  • Power-on the receiver outside with a clear view of the sky while receiving StarFire signal for a minimum of one hour between 1 November 2014 and 15 July 2015

What happens if receivers are not updated?

If a StarFire Receiver is not updated prior to the turn-off date in the table above, the receiver will no longer be able to navigate using SF1, SF2, or RTK until the update is made. This means that systems relying on input from the StarFire Receiver such as AutoTrac™, John Deere Section Control, and documentation will not function. These changes also apply to receivers being used as RTK base stations.

Will additional changes be required in the future?

An attempt will be made to avoid future changes, but due to factors outside the control of John Deere, there is no guarantee that a similar change will not be required at some point in the future. As always, use your standard product support channels for questions and concerns.
