Dont need your hay conditioned? Then zip through hay fields with a John Deere Rotary Disc Mower. Choose from five models 4 to 8 discs wide. All five give you fast, clean cutting thanks to a low-profile cutterbar with discs that spin at 2986 rpm.

You are ready for a variety of field conditions. These mowers can cut +/- 35 degrees to horizontal, so mowing ditches or sloping fields are no problem. Easy-to-adjust float springs and protective skid shoes let the cutter float along ground contours and over rocks. And the rugged discs and free swinging knives can rip through ant hills and gopher mounds.

New John Deere R Series Mowers are designed with speed in mind. Hook up is easy a Quik-Coupler is available on the three larger models. Transport is fast and easy, too, with the with the optional hydraulic tilt cylinder. Simply engage the tractor hydraulics and the cutterbar swings up and locks into place.

These new disc mowers provide greater reliability and peace of mind. The multi V-belt drive can absorb sudden shock loads, plus the drive line is protected by a slip clutch (standard equipment). The cutterbar drive shaft is also shear-bolt protected, reducing the chance of damage to the drive shaft. And power is transmitted between the rotary discs via gears running in oil. If you should catch a fence post or other immovable obstruction, the cutterbar has a breakaway latch that lets the mower swing back to limit damage.

The R Series is designed for fast repairs. If a disc is damaged, the affected quill assembly can be removed and replaced. Disc knives are reversible for double the cutting life. The entire cutterbar is enclosed by a heavy protective curtain to limit flying objects. The front section hinges up and automatically locks in the raised position for easy access to the cutterbar area for maintenance or inspection.

FEATURES
EASY-TO-ATTACH 3-POINT HITCH TRACTOR HOOKUP
The R240, R280, and R310 Mowers attach to tractors with a Category 2 3-point hitch and all three models are quick-hitch compatible. The models have a built-in parking lock that holds the 3-point arms up, making tractor hookup quick and easy. Lower hitch pins can be adjusted left or right to match the mower offset for tractors with wider tire spacing.

The R240, R280, and R310 models have an offset range of 105 mm (4 in.). Adjustable lower hitch pins and an optional longer hitch pin allow for use with tractors of various tire spacing. Available through Parts: an optional long hitch pin increases mower offset to 200 mm (8 in.) for tractors with even wider tire spacing.

HEAVY-DUTY DRIVELINE WITH OVERRUNNING CLUTCH
A heavy-duty driveline with overrunning clutch is standard equipment on R240, R280, and R310 Mowers. All mowers are equipped with a shielded, pullback-collar, telescoping power take-off (PTO) driveline.

HEAVY-DUTY CUTTERBAR FOR THE TOUGHEST CUTTING CONDITIONS
A multi-V-belt drive system transfers power from the gearbox to each rotary disc. Power is transmitted to the rotary discs through fully enclosed gears running in oil for a quiet, smooth, reliable operation.

All models have a spring-loaded belt tensioner for easier belt adjustment. The belt tension automatically compensates for initial belt stretch, increasing belt life. Rotating at 2986 rpm, the high-speed discs cut in the toughest conditions. The low-profile cutterbar allows a close cut while maintaining a level cutterbar. The cutting height is controlled by adjusting the tilt of the cutterbar.

LIFT AND SUSPENSION SYSTEM
A lift and suspension system allows for the R240, R280, and R310 models to raise the cutterbar off the ground without raising the tractors hitch. The disc mowers use the hydraulic cylinder to lift the cutterbar from the cutting position to the transport position, and the cutterbar automatically locks into place.

A longer cylinder on the R240 and R280 allows for a cutting arc of +35 degrees to -25 degrees. A longer cylinder on the R310 allows for a cutting arc of +35 degrees to -30 degrees. A heavier spring establishes even flotation along the full length of the cutterbar in a variety of different field conditions and topography.

ONBOARD STORAGE COMPARTMENT
The R240, R280, and R310 models are standard equipped with an easy-to-access, built-in storage compartment. This convenient drawer is a perfect place for extra hardware such as nuts, bolts, and replacement knives.

REARWARD-SWINGING HYDRAULIC CYLINDER
The R240, R280, and R310 models offer an optional rearward-swinging hydraulic cylinder. The optional hydraulic cylinder allows the operator to swing the mower away from the tractor, eliminating the need to fold up the protective curtain when putting the mower in transport. Mowers with this option have two additional hydraulic hoses that control the hydraulic cylinder that swings the mower away from the tractor.

NOTE: The optional rear-swinging hydraulic cylinder will be available through Parts.
